The
following essays are a sampling of some of my thoughts and
replies to philosophical issues pertaining to morality,
knowledge, and the importance of science and critical
thought. I have written all of these essays during the fall
semester of 1998 while at Montana State
University. As these essays deal with my replies to
questions from actual courses, there is the potential that
my thoughts and writings may be inappropriately plagiarized
and used by others to hand in assignments instead of writing
their own. While it is my intention to
share my thoughts I think it is inappropriate for them to be
used without permission by others as I feel strongly that
plagiarism is immoral for it is the theft of intellectual
property and the deceit of others. "
Plagiarism = the
appropriation of information ideas, or the language of other
persons or writers and the submission of them as one's own
to satisfy the requirements of the course. Plagiarism thus
constitutes both theft and deceit" (Saint Joseph's
University Catalog 1996-97:51 and
cf. The Health
Handbook's section on Plagiarism).
Father Richard Malloy, a professor of sociology and
anthropology I had while at SJU emphasized that: "The
Academy is the last place where honor honesty, virtue and
integrity claim to prevail. YOU CHEAT, YOU'RE BEAT!" I ask
that my thoughts and hard work be
respected as to do otherwise is unhonorable and will only
hurt one's ability to think creatively and critically. I
would appreciate that before reading any of my other essays
you first read my essay:
